Sintered bits are made by fusing diamond particles together with a bonding agent and then bonding this cured mixture (head) to the end of a steel shank. Since the diamond is all the way through the drill bit it does not wear out until the solid head is completely gone. Solid sintered bits are more expensive, but they last much longer.
Bonded bits are made by fusing a single layer of diamond grit to the end of a small metal rod. The coated bits cost less but have much shorter cutting life.
